RALEIGH, N.C. — A transgender woman was arrested over the weekend and charged with assaulting a woman at a Raleigh bar last month.
The alleged victim said the suspect, whose legal name is Geoffrey Jamal Lee, grabbed her from behind several times at a Halcyon, a bar on West Jones Street in the Glenwood South district, on June 11.
The woman said she stopped at the bar to seek help after her friend was hurt falling off a scooter. Within a few seconds, she said, she felt someone grab her from behind.
“Halcyon is a place where everyone can feel comfortable, safe and included while listening to music, networking and enjoying good conversations and celebrations. Unfortunately, we were notified by a customer that another patron touched her in an unwelcomed and inappropriate sexual manner,” the bar’s attorney, Jake Epstein, said in a statement Monday. “We take any such allegations very seriously and immediately investigated the incident. Upon substantiating the allegations, we permanently banned the offending individual from the premises. There is no place for such acts at Halcyon.”
Lee, 29, of Zebulon, was charged with assault on a female and made a first court appearance Monday.
Lee accused two women of assaulting her in a women’s bathroom at a different Glenwood South bar in December.
