BURTON, Mich. – Transgender Connect, a support group and social club, hosted the First Annual Burton Transgender Day of Independence.
It was held at the VFW Post 2777 in Burton on Saturday.
Organizers said the event celebrates their freedom to live life by their identity.
“It’s everything. It’s me being me. It’s me feeling myself. It’s seeing everybody be themselves, despite what society thinks of us,” said Kira Elizabeth Raby, secretary of the Transgender Connect.
The group holds two monthly meetings. Raby said meetings are open to anyone who feels oppressed and needs support.
