Rihanna’s new Fenty Beauty line has been heaped with praise about its countless shade range and diverse ads.

But one fan had something to say about it all and took his questions straight to Riri herself.

On Twitter, @lbertootero asked the singer about the lack of inclusion of trans models in her otherwise inclusive campaign, and surprisingly Rihanna took the time to respond to his comment with thoughtful commentary.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with many gifted trans women throughout the years, but I don’t go around doing trans castings!” she wrote. “Just like I don’t do straight non-trans women castings! I respect all women, and whether they’re trans or not is none of my business!”

Rihanna raised several points about problematic brands in her response.

“Too often do I see companies doing this to trans and black women alike,” she said, calling that tokenization of folks “sad.”

She went on to explain that she isn’t here for other companies using trans models as a “convenient marketing tool.”
